I want to relate a little story I thought up when I first started my Internet marketing business. What if you were to build a restaurant up in the mountains and then a hired the best chef in the world.
How many people would come to your restaurant? At this point we do not know because we have not completed the whole story.
What if your restaurant was so secluded that the day you opened you realize you forgot to put roads leading up to it. Now how many people would come to your restaurant?
Of course the answer to that is zero, yet that's exactly what happens with people and their Internet businesses.
Many of them higher the best website designer, they can afford. When they're done their website looks like $1 million, and they are ready for business.
But they have one problem, and that problem is they have no roads leading to their website.
That is what back links are. A back link is a road that leads to your website. This is where you have your website address on somebody else's website.
You can get permanent back links doing various forms of marketing such as article marketing, forum marketing, blogging and social bookmarking, posting comments in someone else's blog, and so on.
You can also get back links to your site doing paid advertising such as pay per click advertising, text link ads, banner advertising, and so on.
The websites that stand the best chance of being around several years from now are the ones that have quality back links pointing to them. Just like a restaurant with several roads leading to it, your Internet business will be more profitable, because you have more chances of being found.
